Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SONAR ("SONAR", "we", "us" or "our") handles information when you use the SONAR music player for iPhone and CarPlay.
Information SONAR uses
SONAR is designed to keep your music library and playback activity on your device. The app may process:
- audio files, folders, playlists, artwork and metadata that you choose to import;
- your Apple Music authorisation status and the Apple Music catalogue or library items that you choose to access;
- app settings, playlist definitions, a nickname and an optional avatar;
- messages and information that you voluntarily send when contacting support.
How information is used
This information is used only to provide the features you request: importing and playing music, displaying artwork and metadata, creating playlists, remembering your preferences, restoring eligible app data and responding to support enquiries.
Local files and on-device data
Imported music files and the app library are stored on your device or in storage locations that you select through Apple's Files interface. SONAR does not upload your local audio files to a SONAR-operated server.
Apple Music
If you grant access, SONAR uses Apple's MusicKit services to search, display and play Apple Music content associated with your Apple Music account. Apple provides and controls these services. SONAR stores lightweight catalogue references needed for app features; it does not copy protected Apple Music audio.
iCloud and Sign in with Apple
If you choose SONAR's account or backup features, supported app settings, playlist definitions, your nickname and optional avatar may be stored in your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit. Music files and Apple Music audio are not included in the backup. Data stored in iCloud is governed by your Apple account and Apple's terms and privacy practices.
Artwork and network requests
SONAR may download artwork and catalogue information from Apple services or from a source included in content that you import. These requests may disclose technical connection information, such as an IP address, to the service providing the content.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
SONAR does not include third-party advertising, does not sell personal information and does not use your information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. SONAR does not operate its own analytics service.
Sharing and service providers
SONAR does not share personal information with data brokers or advertisers. Apple processes information when you use Apple Music, iCloud, Sign in with Apple, the App Store and related platform services, in accordance with Apple's privacy policy.
Retention and your choices
You control your local library and may remove imported items or delete the app to remove its local data, subject to iOS backup behaviour. You can manage Apple Music and iCloud permissions in iOS Settings. You may remove SONAR backup data through the app's account and iCloud controls where available, or manage iCloud data through your Apple account.
Support correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to answer your enquiry, maintain support records and meet legal obligations. You may ask us to access, correct or delete personal information you have sent directly to us, subject to applicable law.
Children
SONAR is not directed at children for the purpose of collecting personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a SONAR-operated account or advertising service.
International processing
Apple platform services may process information in countries other than your own. Please refer to Apple's privacy information for details about its safeguards. Support email may be processed by our email provider.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when SONAR's features or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
